The Maths behind Cubie Points

Save more, earn more!

The Cubetopia team believes maths is cool. That's why our Cubie Points programme offers a bit more than any other!

Simply put, the more Cubie Points you have saved up, the more you earn with each purchase! If you have less than 10 points, you earn around 1 point for each dollar you spend. If you have more than 60 points, you will earn at least 2 points for each dollar you spend. If you have more than 1000 points, you will earn at least 3 points for each dollar you spend.

This is our thank-you gift to customers who are willing to wait a little longer before redeeming their Cubie Points, and who continue to shop with us in the meantime.

How it works

Our system is inspired by a simple formula: y = x log10(x). Here is a graph:

The beauty of this graph is that it curves further and further upwards as you move to the right, no matter how far you go. As you can see, you start off earning 1 point per dollar, and soon you are earning 2 points per dollar, then 2.5, then 3, and in fact, it keeps getting steeper forever!

x log10(x) just means x multiplied by the base-10 logrithm of x. See the table below:
x log10(x) x log10(x)
1 0 0
10 1 10
100 2 200
1000 3 3000
10000 4 40000

Because we don't want people to earn 0 Cubie Points when they spend $1, we use a slightly different formula: y = x log10(x + 9).

If you redeem all your Cubie Points, you start again earning 1 point per dollar. If you redeem some of your Cubie Points, this will correspondingly reduce the amount of points you earn per purchase. Shipping doesn't count towards Cubie Points.

This little tool will help you work out how many Cubie Points you can earn!

If you have: Cubie Points
and you spend: dollars,
You will earn: 26 more Cubie Points.
